ABSTRACT
Based on the Halcyonics sensor technology a new quality of vibration measuring system
was made possible. Measuring two channels simultaneously
allows comparing isolated and non-isolated parts of the
setup and even record transient phenomena which may
otherwise be lost when the measurements are taken in sequence. In other tasks a
second channel allows the collection of additional data, improving the quality
of the results. The integrated battery pack and the
rugged electronics make the halcyonics_explorer one of
the most versatile vibration measuring system on the market ? worldwide.

DETAILS
Integral parts of each Explorer sensor head, which is made of an Aluminum alloy, are three individual sensors oriented perpendicular to each other, one for each axis in space. It consists of
a machined housing made of a suitable polymer and a solid
brass element with tightly controlled dimensions.

The brass cylinder rests on a piezo ceramic disk, which generates a small electric
charge when the block with the sensor moves in a perpendicular direction to the piezo disk.
The sensor with its housing,
base plate and connecting leads is manufactured and assembled under strictly controlled conditions.

Following each step in production and assembly is a quality control
process at Accurions headquarter workshop.

Each complete sensors individual
characteristics are measured and recorded for future reference.
The Explorers central component is a controller and data processor, allowing to adjust
the gain for the particular measuring task.

In addition, with a single button per channel the measured axes
are changed between x, y and z without touching the sensor heads.

Leaving them undisturbed ensures a rapid collection of reproducible data.
With the integrated battery several hours of independent work is possible.
The processed data are transferred by a cable and PC card to a separate computer, where
the data are displayed and stored for later analysis.
The PC card itself, all cables and a power supply for the system is included in
the transport box containing the sensors and the electronics.
This set may later be completed by a microphone to record the environmental noise level at locations of interest.
